PARENT / PLAYER NEWSLETTER – August 5th

Although I had been absent most of the week it was good to see things coming together upon my return.  By now, the players should have become comfortable with their full gear and ready to get to some serious action!

Full contact had started last Wednesday and this is an important time of the season.  This is when the players discover what is inside of them and how much heart and determination they have.  If this is their first year of full contact football they have now discovered the adrenaline of hitting.  Please take into consideration; this is a full contact sport.  Bumps and bruises will be sustained.  There is a difference between getting hurt and being injured.  If a player is hurt, he needs to realize the pain will discharge and it will make him stronger.  If a player is injured, we will attend to him and appropriate actions will be taken.

The coaches will now begin to focus on the proper fundamentals of blocking and tackling.  Without the basic fundamentals in place we will not be successful this season.  I cannot stress enough the importance of fundamentals!  Please take time with your child to review what he has learned everyday and practice at home.  I am also asking each parent to explain to their child the importance of being attentive during each drill.  The drills are designed to teach the fundamentals of football.  If they want to get into a game situation they must know the basic fundamentals.  Without them they are at risk of injury and we will not place a child in harm’s way.
